How to create Custom Criteria
Access the Custom Guideline Builder:
To build a new rule, open the Configure Criteria Rule modal on the Add Criteria page.
Note: You can upload a custom brand icon to highlight your unique, high-priority criteria, making it easy to spot your most important guidelines in reports. This feature helps you quickly recognize and act on key insights in Creative Scoring.
Name your criteria and select the relevant channel
Select Rule Type (Has/Does Not Have):
In the first field, select either:
Has: The creative contains the selected criteria.
Does Not Have: The creative does not contain the selected criteria.
Choose Criteria Type:
In the second field, choose the criteria type that fits your rule.
Criteria types are grouped by categories, such as Branding, Audio, or Human Presence.
Example: Criteria such as Brand Name Mention and Brand Name or Logo will be listed under the Branding category.
Input Additional Parameters:
Based on your chosen criteria, you will need to provide additional parameters to complete the rule.
Parameter options may include:
Timing (e.g., “first x seconds,” “last y seconds”)
Specific words or phrases
Numerical values (e.g., number of scenes, number of times an event occurs)
Example: If creating a rule for Audio Present Between x and y seconds, you must select:
Criteria Type: Audio Present
Timing Parameter: Between
Timing Values: x seconds and y seconds.
Validating Criteria Rules
To ensure your rules are created correctly, you must complete all required fields before saving.
Error Handling:
If you attempt to save a rule without filling out all required fields, a tooltip error message will appear. This message will highlight the missing fields and prevent you from saving the rule until all inputs are complete.
Finalizing the Rule:
After completing the rule, you can finalize it by filling out any remaining fields in the Add Criteria page.
Once all fields are completed, click Save to add the rule.
Use Cases for Flexible Criteria Rules
Brand Compliance Monitoring: Ensure that your creative meets specific brand guidelines by defining rules that check for the correct logo, brand mentions, or visual presence at key moments in the creative.
Performance Optimization: Use criteria to optimize the creative for higher engagement by specifying rules that dictate the timing of key elements like audio, visuals, or branding to match the platform’s best practices.
Legal and Ethical Compliance: Create rules that detect the presence of required legal disclaimers or the absence of restricted content (e.g., adult content, certain types of messaging) to ensure compliance with regional laws.
Translating Insights into Actionable Criteria: Leverage insights uncovered in your analytics by creating scoring criteria based on elements proven to consistently drive performance. If you identify a specific feature—such as visuals or messaging—that boosts engagement or aligns with branding best practices, you can establish a criteria for that element.
Nuances to Keep in Mind
Required Fields: Every rule must be fully configured with all required parameters before it can be saved. Ensure all fields are filled out, or the system will display a tooltip error.
Use of "And" vs "Or" Statements: When combining multiple criteria, be aware that using "And" statements increases the stringency of your rules, meaning the creative must meet all specified conditions. Using "Or" statements allows more flexibility, where the creative only needs to pass one of the defined criteria.
Impact on Reports: If you edit a rule after it has been applied to a report, it will update the data for all existing reports that use that rule. This could affect how past reports are interpreted, so be sure to consider the impact before editing.
Setting Realistic Criteria: While it’s possible to create highly specific or complex rules, be mindful that the more precise the rule, the less likely it is that your creative will pass. To avoid low scores, consider making some criteria optional or leaving room for flexibility. Striking the right balance helps ensure that your creative meets achievable standards while maintaining quality.
Managing Expectations: Keep in mind that the way criteria are set up will directly influence scoring outcomes. Highly detailed or restrictive criteria may result in lower scores, so it’s important to understand how the setup may affect the overall performance evaluation.
By following these guidelines, you can effectively use the Configure Criteria Rule modal to create highly customized and flexible rules that suit your specific needs while maintaining accuracy and compliance.
