How do I use Guideline Weight

Guideline weights are designed to allow users to determine the relative importance of each guideline by channel, ensuring that the most important guidelines have a larger impact on overall scores.

How weights work

  • Each guideline is assigned a point value (0–100) that reflects its relative importance.

  • The platform converts those points into a weight percentage within each channel:

  • Guidelines with 0 points are still evaluated but do not affect scoring.

  • Consideration (Mandatory/Optional) will no longer be an option users will select but will appear in the Guideline management page. Mandatory reflects guidelines with a weight of 1+ and Optional represents guidelines with a weight of 0.

How weighted scoring works

  • A guideline’s score (how often assets meet that rule) is multiplied by its weight%.

  • A channel’s final score is a weighted average of all guideline scores

  • Higher-weight guidelines move the channel score more than lower-weight ones.

How it works with different media types (Images, Videos, GIFs)

  • Some guidelines only apply to a certain media type (e.g., video-only rules, image-only rules).

  • To keep scoring consistent and avoid confusion:
Each media type gets its own weight distribution based on the rules that apply to that media type.

    • Image guidelines → contribute only to image scoring

    • Video guidelines → contribute only to video scoring

    • Guidelines that don’t apply to that media type contribute 0% to that media’s score

  • When a batch includes both images and videos:

    • Images are scored using the image weight model

    • Videos are scored using the video weight model

    • The final channel score blends both media scores.

  • Important: This is not a bug — it is expected that a guideline may contribute only to one media type.

How weights work in reports

Weights are applied consistently across all reports and dashboards, including:

  • Scoring Report

  • In-flight Check

  • Pre-flight Check

  • Impression Scoring

  • Asset Investment

  • Creative Manager

  • Dashboard widgets

  • CSV exports

  • Scoring API

In reports:

  • Each guideline shows both Weight (points) and Weight (%).

  • Hovering over a guideline shows:

    • Rule

    • Weight points

    • Weight%

    • Media types it applies to

  • The overall channel score in reports uses the same weighted formula.

  • If some guidelines are filtered out, then the weight (%) will redistribute based on guideline points/total guidelines.

Why scores may look different if the asset mix changes

  • If a report includes more videos vs. images, different guidelines apply.

  • That means different media weight sets are being used.

  • This is expected and reflects the creative mix being evaluated — not a scoring error.

Weights and guideline groups

  • Guideline groups use the same point values assigned at the channel level.

  • A group’s total points = the sum of points for the guidelines included in that group.

  • The guideline score still accounts for media applicability (e.g., video-only guidelines won’t be scored on images).

The group score is a weighted average of each guideline’s score × its Group Weight%.

How are aggregated scores calculated?

Score totals take in account both the weight of the guidelines they aggregate as well as the number of media (or Impressions in Impression Scoring Reports) that guidelines are scored against. Some guidelines only pertain to some types of media so, therefore they are scored against fewer assets than others.

Example

Guidelines

Weight

Media Type

Applies to

Guideline A

2 pts

Images, Videos

5 assets

Guideline B

1pt

Images

2 assets

When each asset is evaluated against a guideline it receives either:

  • Pass = 1

  • Fail = 0

and then we multiply by the guideline weight points when rolling up.

Guideline A

Let’s say 3 pass, 2 fail.

  • Earned points = 3 passes x 2 points = 6

  • Possible points = 5 total assets x 2 points =10

  • Guideline A pass rate = 3/5 = 60%

Guideline B

Let’s say 1 pass, 1 fail.

  • Earned points = 1 passes x 1 points = 1

  • Possible points = 2 total assets x 1 points = 2

  • Guideline B pass rate = 1/2 = 50%

Meta Aggregated Score = 58.3%

*Note: Same logic is used for Impressions Scoring reports except instead of assets, we are weighing impressions.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Question

Answer

Where can I set guideline weights?

In the Guidelines page, select to create a new guideline, on step 2, configure weight points per channel instance of that guideline. Alternatively, for existing guidelines edit weight directly in the guideline management table.

Why use points instead of setting percentages?

Points let you express relative importance without needing to add up to 100%. This makes the system easier to maintain and more flexible as guidelines change over time. For each individual guideline, users can give 0-100 points.

What happens if a guideline has 0 points?

The guideline is still evaluated and visible in reports, but it does not impact scoring. Guidelines with 1+ points are considered Mandatory; 0-point guidelines are Optional.

How does weighting work across images and videos?

Each media type has its own weight distribution based on the guidelines that apply. Image rules affect image scoring, video rules affect video scoring, and non-applicable rules contribute 0% for that media type.

Why might scores change when my asset mix changes?

If a report includes more videos vs. images, a different set of guidelines and weights applies. This reflects the creative mix being evaluated—not a scoring error.

What will the default weight be?

By default, every mandatory guideline will be given a 1, and all optional guidelines will be given a 0.

Do guideline weights change individual guidelines pass rates?

No. The percentage shown next to a guideline always represents the raw pass rate (assets passed / assets evaluated). Weights are only applied when calculating aggregated scores, not individual guideline performance.

How does rounding work?

In the UI we show weights rounded to the nearest tenth of a point. In the backend calculation we are rounding the weight to 3 decimal points.

How do weights work when I’ve selected multiple workspaces in a report?

For this release we are not supporting weights in Impressions Scoring and Scoring reports with multiple workspaces selected. Ultimately this was complex as weights are assigned to guidelines belonging to specific workspaces and would have pushed out other critical items on our roadmap. If a user selected multiple workspaces they will see messaging that scores will appear unweighted.

How has the Scoring API updated?

There is now an additional field for “Score” this is the weighted score. We are maintaining the “Adherence Score” field which is the unweighted score so, all current usage of the API should remain uninterrupted.

Can Maddie provide an answer on what my weights should be?

Maddie is equipped to understand how weights work and provide guidance into determining what weights to give guidelines based on their desired impact.
